“Heart Disorders Are Associated With Erectile Dysfunction”, Reveals Study
Tue, 04 September 2007
Very few men may seldom imagine that continuous prevalence of problems in achieving or sustaining erections may lead to a heart trouble.
According to a latest study conducted by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, erectile dysfunction jeopardizes the lives of over 18 million American men. And now an emergent research organization finds it linked to vascular diseases like coronary artery disease too.
“A weak erection can actually be one of the primary indicators of blood vessel disease." said Dr. Ian Thompson, professor and chairman of the department of urology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Furthermore, in one another study, men with erectile dysfunction were also found at a high risk of getting coronary heart disease.
“During our study, erectile dysfunction was found the stronger risk factor than other traditional risk factors we usually ask queries about, including high cholesterol and high blood pressure." said lead researcher Dr. R. Parker Ward, an assistant professor of medicine and director of the cardiology clinic at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
Published last year in the Archives of Internal Medicine, Ward's study included men who had been recommended to visit cardiologists as to determine the sternness of coronary heart disease. But erectile dysfunction emerged as a notable sign of future risk of heart attack even in men without heart symptoms, he noted.
