Sanofi Has No Comment On Acomplia U.S. Launch

French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis declined to say on Tuesday when it expected to launch anti-obesity pill Acomplia in the United States.

The world's third largest drugmaker had previously said it was confident it could launch Acomplia in the United States this year though analyst doubts have increased over whether U.S. marketing approval would come on time.

"I ask you to understand that we will not speculate at all what the FDA will do and has to do within which timeline," Hanspeter Spek, head of pharmaceutical operations said during a conference call.

Sanofi said it had submitted its full response on anti-obesity pill Acomplia to the U.S. health authorities on Oct. 26. Sanofi received an approvable letter for the drug in February, indicating the Food and Drug Administration needed more information.
