Obese Are More Prone To Cancer: Study Claims

Thu, 10 May 2007

People who are encircled with heavy bulge need to put a stop over the mounting weight as they are prone not only to cardiovascular disease and diabetes, but can also fall prey to cancer, asserts a novel study.

Conducted by Australia’s Cancer Council of Victoria, the study was carried out over 41,000 people for 17 years. It was found that 100 centimeters waistline in men and 85 centimeters waistline in women increases the likelihood of cancer. The Cancer Council recommends that people having such waistline measurements should take prerequisite steps to reduce their prospects of being hospitalized on account of cancer.

To help out overweight, the council suggested that they should eat a balanced and healthy diet. Instead of taking fatty foodstuffs, over weight people should incorporate lots of fruit and vegetables, breads and pastas, wholegrain cereals, and low- fat milk and dairy products into their diet.

Plus, it is also suggested that an adult must eat five servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit a day for perfect health and to diminish the risk of cancer.

“Most people often do not give a single thought to the fact that there could be any relationship between weight and cancer”, said Council member David Hill.
