Diet Pill Acomplia (Rimonabant) Is Approved In Brazil

Tue, 01 May 2007

French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis announced on 26-April-2007 that its anti-obesity Acomplia drug had received approval from Brazil's health authority.

Acomplia has been approved in Brazil for the treatment of obese patients, or overweight patients with associated risk factors, such as type-2 diabetes or dyslipidemia.

Sanofi-Aventis is one of the world leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, ranking number one in Europe. Sanofi hopes Acomplia can help offset future lost sales to generics.

Acomplia has been approved in the European Union, but reimbursements remain limited and the drug is still awaiting approval from U.S. health authorities (FDA) following several delays.
