Diet Pill Acomplia may be Available in UK, but not Always Easy to Find in PharmaciesTue, 11 July 2006 While Sanofi-Aventis appears to be off to a fast start in promoting the new diet pill Acomplia (rimonabant) to primary care physicians in the United Kingdom, it still appears to be lagging in getting the highly anticipated weight loss drug into Britain's pharmacies and chemists. Several emails to the Acomplia Report from readers in the U.K. report that they have gotten a prescription for Acomplia from their general practitioner, only to be told by pharmacists in their communities that they had no Acomplia (with some even saying they had not heard about it)! "My GP gave me a prescription for rimonabant last night, because of a (Sanofi) rep that came round to talk about it," one British reader emailed. "She advised me it would be already available, but I went to two pharmacies in my area and they haven't heard of it." Emails from several other readers of the Acomplia Report tell a similar story. Since only two weeks have passed since the launch of Acomplia in the U.K., our guess is that any difficulty that currently exists in obtaining the diet drug in Britain's pharmacies will be short-lived. Several online pharmacies based in the U.K. are already advertising the availability of Acomplia -- though at prices considerably higher than the just-over-$100-for-a-month's-supply level announced by Sanofi at the press conference launching its British marketing campaign. Whether these online U.K. pharmacies are getting enough of a supply of
Acomplia at this point
to immediately fill all orders is not clear. We would be interested in
hearing from any readers who have chosen to order Acomplia over the internet
about their experiences with online vendors.
