Brook: STIs Will Increase Without Sexual Health FundingWed, 02 August 2006 Sexual health charity Brook has warned that sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies will increase if more is not done to ensure sexual health funding reaches frontline services. A report today from the independent advisory group on sexual health and HIV shows that much of the £300 million allocated to sexual health services has been diverted towards paying off NHS debts. Brook chief executive Val Buxton said: “It is extremely worrying that money earmarked for sexual health services is being used to help balance the books in the NHS, at a time when investment in sexual health is so desperately needed. "It’s going to be even more difficult to tackle rates of sexually transmitted infection and unplanned pregnancy if clinics are understaffed, open for reduced hours, or even closed altogether.”
