Diet Pill Alli Likely To Be Available In Europe By 2008
Tue, 03 April 2007
Diet pill Alli, which will be available for sale in the US this summer, is likely to be available in Europe by the end of next year, said GlaxoSmithKline, the firm that manufactures this over-the-counter diet drug. The firm said that it plans to seek European approval before the end of this year to sell Alli, a low-dose version of prescription diet drug Xenical (orlistat), and hopes that it will begin selling Alli in Britain and other European nations by late 2008. Like US, in Europe too, many unregulated diet drugs are sold in the markets and Glaxo is expecting to command these markets that have millions of buyers flocking for diet drugs. Glaxo spokesperson said consumers spend billions of dollars every year on fad diets, unproven diet drugs and potentially unsafe weight loss supplements that might not work. He further added that Alli is the clinical proven alternative for those unproven diet pills that are misleading the overweight people. While health experts are advising people not get carried away thinking they will get that hour-glass figure by just popping this capsule. Its benefits will be higher if it’s followed as directed. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had given its approval for Alli in February, making it the first weight-loss pill ever approved for over-the-counter sale in the United States.
